WHO IS TOMMY ALLEN
Retired Sheriff Tommy Allen served in the rural county of Anson, in North Carolina,
as the locally elected sheriff for a total of twenty-eight years.
Retired Sheriff Tommy Allen served in the rural county of Anson, in North Carolina, as the locally elected sheriff for a total of twenty-eight years. He also worked as a deputy sheriff and as a patrol officer and detective for the Wadesboro Police Department for a total of thirty-four years in law enforcement. When first elected in 1978, at the age of twenty-seven, he was the youngest sheriff to be elected in Anson County.
Allen grew up in Anson County, and after high school, he attended a local two-year junior college named Wingate and then the University of North Carolina in Chape Hill. After graduating, he returned to his beloved hometown of Peachland and eventually moved to Wadesboro to be closer to his work.
Now retired from law enforcement, he enjoys writing, volunteering at a local crisis ministry and local historical society, traveling, and doing yard work at home; and he continues being involved in numerous ways in his local community and law enforcement circles.
